How to register for Positive Pay System?

STEP 1: Check if Your Bank Offers PPS

  • Not all banks provide PPS, but most major banks in India have implemented it for cheques above ₹50,000 (some banks may have a different threshold).
  • You can check with your bank’s branch, website, or customer service for PPS registration.

STEP 2: Choose Your Mode of Registration

  • Banks offer multiple ways to register for PPS:

    • Online Banking / Mobile Banking App (Most convenient method)
    • Branch Visit (Manual form submission)
    • Email to the Bank’s Customer Support
    • Phone Banking / IVR Service

STEP 3: Submit Cheque Details Before Issuing

  • If you are issuing a cheque that meets the PPS threshold, you need to provide these details to your bank before handing over the cheque to the beneficiary:

      • Cheque Number
      • Cheque Date
      • Payee Name (Beneficiary)
      • Cheque Amount
      • Account Number
      • MICR Code (printed on the cheque)
      • Optional: Image of the cheque (if required by the bank)

STEP 4: Confirm Submission & Receive Acknowledgment

  • If registering online or via mobile banking, you will receive an SMS/email confirmation after successful submission.
  • If submitting manually, the bank will issue an acknowledgment receipt.

STEP 5: Bank Verifies the Cheque When Presented for Clearing

  • When the cheque is deposited by the beneficiary, the bank cross-verifies the details submitted in the Positive Pay System.
  • If any discrepancy is found (e.g., mismatch in payee name or amount), the bank flags the cheque for verification before processing.

STEP 6: Track Status & Modify if Needed

  • If required, you can modify or cancel a Positive Pay request before the cheque is presented.
  • Some banks allow customers to check the status via their online banking portal.
